A for Agility
Everything should be made as simple as possible…but not simpler. I did not come up with this sentence. Einstein did. Although his words resonate with me, I believe the spirit of Einstein’s aphorism has long since been forgotten: buried with him. Over and over again we hear the world in general and business in particular are driven by speed, uncertainty, and complexity. What about simplicity? – Even if the excess of it should be avoided, says the genius of geniuses… Simplicity seems to be outdated. Thank goodness we believe in agility. Agility may be our savior…
B for Budget
There are holy words in the business world. In any business corporation, some words are
more sacred than others. Mind you: if you want a bright future in a corporation, you’d better know its own sacred words.
In fact, each corporation is a person: “body corporate” is the legal term. So, just like a human person, it believes it is unique…As such, it has its own holy words. These may differ from a corporation to another. Some corporation will choose “growth” as holy word, other may be obsessed about “compliance”…
C for Control
If corporations plan and spend so much time preparing their budgets, it is mainly because they want to anticipate and control that everything is going on as planned. If things do not go as planned, then the first thing to do is to try to find someone guilty. Of course! Then, you acknowledge that you have not seen something important, and you start planning even more. It is so reassuring to have the impression that things are “under” control.
